Drug intelligence / Profile preview
AQ001P is a preclinical-stage dry powder formulation of budesonide, developed by Aquilon Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The formulation utilizes Aquilon's proprietary functional excipient technology, which complexes budesonide with hydroxypropyl-beta-cyclodextrin (HP-Betadex). This technology, referred to as the 'Golf Ball Effect,' is designed to improve the aerodynamic properties of the dry powder particles, enhancing deep lung deposition and bioavailability while potentially allowing for lower therapeutic doses. As an inhaled corticosteroid (ICS), budesonide acts as a glucocorticoid receptor agonist to reduce airway inflammation.
