Overview

AQL-Naltrexone (AQL-Nal) is an extended-release, liposome-based formulation of naltrexone developed by Plumb Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of Opioid Use Disorder (OUD). The drug is designed as a subcutaneous injection that utilizes Plumb's proprietary AQL technology to provide sustained release of the active ingredient over multiple months. As a non-selective opioid receptor antagonist, naltrexone blocks the euphoric effects of exogenous opioids and reduces cravings, thereby assisting in the prevention of relapse in patients with opioid dependence. This formulation aims to improve patient compliance by reducing the frequency of administration compared to existing daily oral or monthly injectable naltrexone products.
