Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**AQS-1301** is a once-weekly transdermal patch formulation of the atypical antipsychotic **aripiprazole**, developed by Aequus Pharmaceuticals in partnership with Corium International. It aims to provide sustained delivery over seven days, improving patient compliance compared to daily oral tablets or monthly injectables. Aripiprazole acts as a **dopamine D2 and serotonin 5-HT1A partial agonist** and antagonist at various receptors including **5-HT2A**, **D3**, **D4**, **alpha-1 adrenergic**, **H1 histamine**, and **serotonin 7**, modulating neurotransmitter activity for antipsychotic effects. Proof-of-concept studies confirmed bioavailability and safety, with FDA agreement on a 505(b)(2) abbreviated development path leveraging existing aripiprazole data; however, no recent development reported since phase-I plans in 2019 for schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder, and autistic disorder.[3][1][2][7]
