AQST-119 is an oral soluble film formulation of tadalafil, developed by Aquestive Therapeutics using its proprietary PharmFilm technology. Tadalafil is a potent and selective inhibitor of cGMP-specific phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5), the enzyme responsible for the degradation of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) in the corpus cavernosum. By inhibiting PDE5, AQST-119 maintains higher levels of cGMP, which facilitates smooth muscle relaxation and increased blood flow to the penis during sexual stimulation. The PharmFilm delivery system is designed to dissolve rapidly on the tongue without the need for water, providing a discreet and convenient administration option for patients with erectile dysfunction (ED).
