Drug intelligence / Profile preview
AquADEKs-2 is an investigational, antioxidant-enriched multivitamin supplement specifically formulated for patients with cystic fibrosis (CF) and pancreatic insufficiency. Developed in collaboration with the University of Colorado, Denver, it is a modified version of the original AquADEKs formulation. The supplement contains standard fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, and K) along with an enhanced profile of antioxidants, including beta-carotene, mixed tocopherols, coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), and mixed carotenoids (lutein, lycopene, and zeaxanthin), as well as the minerals zinc and selenium. It is designed to address the systemic oxidative stress and chronic inflammation characteristic of CF. Clinical studies, such as the Phase 2 trial NCT01859390, have evaluated its ability to increase systemic antioxidant levels and potentially reduce pulmonary exacerbations, although it did not significantly reduce respiratory inflammation compared to standard CF multivitamins in primary endpoints.
