Aquatabs

Aquatabs is a point-of-use water purification product containing sodium dichloroisocyanurate (NaDCC) as the active ingredient. Manufactured by Medentech, these effervescent tablets are designed to disinfect household drinking water by releasing a precise dose of free chlorine (hypochlorous acid). This process effectively reduces microbial contamination, including enteric pathogens such as *E. coli*, which are primary causes of diarrheal diseases. The International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b) has evaluated Aquatabs in large-scale randomized trials to assess their impact on reducing diarrhea prevalence among children in rural settings where tubewell water is a primary source. The tablets provide a stable and portable method for water treatment, ensuring safety during storage and transport by providing residual protection against recontamination.
