Overview

Aqueous gel is a topical water-based formulation commonly used as a pharmaceutical vehicle and emollient to hydrate the skin. In the context of DermBiont, Inc.'s clinical program for atopic dermatitis, this gel was utilized as the control (placebo) intervention in a Phase 2 randomized, observer-blinded, within-patient bilateral trial. The study was designed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of DBI-001—a live biotherapeutic product containing the bacterial strain *Janthinobacterium lividum*—by comparing it against the daily application of this aqueous gel vehicle over a four-week period. While the gel itself provides moisturizing benefits to the skin barrier, it lacks the active biological component targeted at the skin microbiome dysbiosis associated with atopic dermatitis.
