Overview

AR-102 is a synthetic small molecule that acts as an agonist of the prostaglandin F2 alpha receptor (FP receptor). It is a derivative of prostaglandin F (PGF) and functions as a prodrug form designed to enhance metabolic stability and pharmacokinetic properties. The compound was initially developed by Aerie Pharmaceuticals and later by Alcon for ophthalmic indications, specifically targeting eye disorders such as glaucoma. Its mechanism involves activation of the FP receptor to lower intraocular pressure. Development for glaucoma reached Phase II clinical trials in the United States but has since been discontinued[5][9].
