AR-2474 is a novel synthetic small molecule antibacterial compound belonging to the diphenyl urea class, originally developed by Arpida Ltd. It was designed for topical application to treat skin infections and for the prevention of methicillin-resistant *Staphylococcus aureus* (MRSA) transmission through nasal decolonization. The compound exhibits potent activity against a broad range of Gram-positive pathogens, including methicillin-susceptible and methicillin-resistant staphylococci, streptococci, and enterococci. Preclinical studies presented in 2007 demonstrated efficacy comparable to mupirocin in treating MRSA skin infections and nasal decolonization, with a low propensity for resistance development and no cross-resistance with existing topical treatments. Development of the compound appears to have ceased following Arpida's corporate restructuring and merger with Evolva.
