Overview
AR-H069927XX is a pharmacologically active metabolite of **atecegatran fexenetil** (AZD0837), a direct thrombin inhibitor developed by AstraZeneca. AZD0837 was designed as an oral anticoagulant for the prevention of stroke and systemic embolism in patients with atrial fibrillation. AR-H069927XX, along with the primary active form atecegatran (AR-H067637), contributes to the anticoagulant effect by inhibiting Factor IIa (thrombin). The development of the parent drug AZD0837 was discontinued in Phase II/III clinical trials due to concerns regarding liver toxicity, specifically elevations in liver enzymes observed in treated patients.
