Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Arabinogalactan ICPA is a natural polysaccharide research compound isolated from the water extract of the medicinal and edible plant *Ixeris chinensis* (Thunb.) Nakai. It has a molecular weight of approximately 58.1 kDa and is primarily composed of galactose and arabinose. ICPA exhibits significant immunomodulatory activity, including the stimulation of macrophage proliferation and the regulation of cytokine production. In preclinical models of ulcerative colitis (UC), ICPA has been shown to ameliorate symptoms such as weight loss and colon shortening by inhibiting pro-inflammatory mediators like TNF-α, IL-1β, and the NLRP3 inflammasome, while promoting the anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10. Furthermore, it restores intestinal barrier integrity by upregulating tight junction proteins (ZO-1 and occludin) and modulates gut microbiota by increasing the abundance of *Turicibacter* and *Bifidobacterium*. It has also been investigated as a stabilizer for selenium nanoparticles to enhance anti-tumor activity in hepatocellular carcinoma.
