Overview

This is a combination of three long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs): arachidonic acid (AA), docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). EPA and DHA are classified as omega-3 fatty acids, while AA is an omega-6 fatty acid. These compounds are essential components of cell membranes and play critical roles in metabolism, inflammation modulation, cardiovascular health, neural development, and cellular signaling. Pharmaceutical formulations containing EPA and DHA—sometimes with or without AA—are used primarily to lower triglyceride levels in adults with severe hypertriglyceridemia as adjuncts to diet. They may also be used as dietary supplements for general cardiovascular support or to address deficiencies[1][2][4][8]. The mechanism of action involves reduction of hepatic triglyceride synthesis and secretion as well as anti-inflammatory effects mediated by their incorporation into cell membranes[1][2].
