Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Arasertaconazole nitrate is the R-enantiomer of sertaconazole nitrate, a synthetic imidazole antifungal agent. It acts as a broad-spectrum antifungal and is used for the treatment of vulvovaginal candidiasis. Like other azole antifungals, it inhibits fungal cytochrome P450-mediated 14α-lanosterol demethylase, blocking ergosterol synthesis—a key component of fungal cell membranes—leading to increased membrane permeability and cell death. The racemic mixture (sertaconazole nitrate) is also used as an antifungal for various skin infections. Arasertaconazole exhibits additional anti-inflammatory and antipruritic effects by modulating immune responses[5][6][7].
