Overview
ARCAD Instillate is a biologic product candidate developed by ARC Pharmaceuticals for the prevention and treatment of post-surgical and fibrous adhesions. The active ingredient is fucoidan, a naturally occurring sulfated polysaccharide extracted from brown marine algae (seaweed). Formulated as a liquid instillate for direct application to tissues during surgery, the drug aims to reduce the incidence and severity of internal scarring. Fucoidan is thought to function by inhibiting selectin-mediated inflammatory cell recruitment and modulating the fibrinolytic system to prevent the formation of permanent fibrous bands between organs and tissues. The technology was licensed exclusively from the University of British Columbia.
