Overview
AWcorna (also known as ARCoV or ARCoVax) is a thermostable mRNA-based vaccine developed for the prevention of COVID-19. Co-developed by Abogen Biosciences, Walvax Biotechnology, and the Academy of Military Medical Sciences, it distinguishes itself from other mRNA vaccines like those from Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna by targeting the receptor-binding domain (RBD) of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein rather than the full-length protein. The vaccine is encapsulated in lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) and is designed to be stable at standard refrigerator temperatures (2-8°C) for at least six months, which significantly eases storage and transport requirements in resource-limited settings. AWcorna has received emergency use authorization in Indonesia and has been approved for use as a booster in China.
