ARG-007 is a neuroprotective peptide drug developed to reduce brain tissue death following acute neurological injuries, including stroke, hypoxic ischaemic encephalopathy (HIE), and traumatic brain injury (TBI). Its plurifunctional mechanism of action includes reducing neuronal excitotoxicity, limiting calcium influx and mitochondrial dysfunction, and decreasing the activation of damaging proteolytic enzymes. These actions enhance its neuroprotective potential by mitigating cell death and inflammation in the brain after injury. Preclinical studies have demonstrated efficacy in models of stroke, HIE, and TBI. The drug has completed Phase 1 clinical trials showing safety and tolerability in healthy volunteers; it is currently being evaluated in Phase 2 trials for ischemic stroke patients. ARG-007 has received Orphan Drug Designation from the US FDA for HIE[1][2][3][4][5][6][8].
