Overview

Argadin is a cyclic pentapeptide natural product and a member of the oligopeptide class, with the chemical formula C29H42N10O9 and molecular weight approximately 674.7 Da[1][3][9]. It was originally isolated from the cultured broth of a fungal strain identified as Clonostachys sp. FO-7314[4]. Argadin acts as a potent nanomolar inhibitor of Family-18 chitinases, specifically inhibiting chitinase B (ChiB) with a Ki value of about 20 nM[2][3]. Chitinases are enzymes involved in the degradation of chitin, an essential component in fungal cell walls and some parasites. Due to its mechanism, argadin has been investigated primarily for research purposes related to anti-infective activity and as an experimental tool for studying chitinase function[2][3].
