Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Arginine + Zinc is an investigational topical dental formulation developed by Colgate-Palmolive for the treatment of dentin hypersensitivity. The formulation typically contains 8% arginine and a zinc compound, such as zinc phosphate. Arginine works by physically sealing open dentin tubules, creating an acid-resistant occlusive plug that prevents fluid movement and subsequent nerve stimulation. Zinc is included to provide calculus inhibition and enhance the acid resistance of the protective layer formed by arginine. This combination is delivered in a toothpaste modality and has been evaluated in Phase 3 clinical trials to compare its efficacy against other dentin-occluding technologies like calcium sodium phosphosilicate (CSPS).
