Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Arginine aspartate** is a 1:1 salt of L-arginine and L-aspartic acid used in oral medicinal products, including Asparten and Sargenor. The arginine component serves as a metabolic substrate, including for nitric oxide synthase-mediated nitric oxide production, while aspartate participates in intermediary metabolism. It has been used in products for temporary fatigue or asthenia and was evaluated as an oral pharmacological-chaperone strategy for p.Q188R homozygous classic galactosemia. In a completed four-participant pilot study, arginine aspartate did not improve galactose oxidation or rescue the deleterious p.Q188R galactose-1-phosphate uridylyltransferase phenotype.
