Arginine silicate is a laboratory-synthesized compound consisting of the amino acid arginine, silicon (as silicate), and inositol bonded together to form a unique molecule. It is primarily used as a dietary supplement ingredient to increase plasma levels of both arginine and silicon more effectively than standard forms such as arginine hydrochloride[1][4][6]. The mechanism of action involves increasing blood levels of L-arginine, which serves as a precursor for nitric oxide synthesis—a key mediator of vasodilation and improved blood flow[1]. Silicon may enhance the bioavailability and absorption of L-arginine. Clinical studies have shown that supplementation with this complex can elevate plasma concentrations of both components within hours after ingestion and sustain these increases with continued use[1][4]. Arginine silicate has been investigated for potential benefits on vascular health, cognitive function, bone healing, exercise performance ("pump"), and possibly other areas where increased nitric oxide production or improved nutrient delivery are beneficial[2][4][6]. It is generally considered safe when used as directed.
