Arginine sodium succinate (Unifuzol) is a metabolic and vasoactive pharmaceutical developed by the Russian company POLYSAN. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of peripheral arterial disease (PAD) and obliterating atherosclerosis of the lower extremities. The drug is administered as an intravenous infusion (1.4% solution). Its mechanism of action involves the delivery of L-arginine, which serves as a substrate for nitric oxide synthase to produce nitric oxide, leading to vasodilation and improved microcirculation. Additionally, the succinate component acts as an antihypoxic agent by supporting mitochondrial energy metabolism. Clinical trials have demonstrated that Unifuzol significantly improves pain-free walking distance and maximal walking distance in patients with chronic limb ischemia.
