Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Argovit is a specialized formulation of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) typically stabilized with polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), with an average particle size of approximately 35 nm. It exhibits broad-spectrum antimicrobial (antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal) and antineoplastic properties. In veterinary medicine, Argovit is utilized for treating reproductive and inflammatory disorders such as bovine purulent catarrhal endometritis and mastitis, where it acts as an efflux pump inhibitor to restore bacterial sensitivity to multiple classes of antibiotics. In aquaculture, it is used to prevent and reduce mortality from the White Spot Syndrome Virus (WSSV) in shrimp. For human health, Argovit has been investigated as a prophylactic mouthwash and nasal rinse to prevent SARS-CoV-2 infection among healthcare workers and as a chemoprotective agent to mitigate the genotoxicity of compounds such as cyclophosphamide and sodium arsenite. Additionally, it is applied in agriculture to manage devastating crop diseases, including Huanglongbing in citrus and Fusarium wilt in bananas, by reducing bacterial and fungal titers.
