Overview

ARI-HER2 is an autologous chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy targeting the Human Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor 2 (HER2). Developed by the Fundació de Recerca Clínic Barcelona-Institut d’Investigacions Biomèdiques August Pi i Sunyer (IDIBAPS) in collaboration with Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, it is designed to treat advanced HER2-positive solid tumors, specifically breast cancer. The therapy involves genetically modifying a patient's own T cells to express a CAR that recognizes and binds to HER2-expressing cancer cells, leading to T-cell activation and tumor cell lysis. It is currently being evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials for patients with advanced HER2-positive breast cancer who have exhausted standard treatment options.
