Overview

Arilvax is a live attenuated vaccine used for the prevention of yellow fever, a viral hemorrhagic fever caused by the yellow fever virus. It contains the 17D strain of the virus, which is grown in chick embryos. Originally developed by Celltech (formerly Medeva), the vaccine's rights transitioned through several companies, including PowderJect, Evans Vaccines, Chiron Vaccines, and Acambis. It is administered as a single-dose subcutaneous injection and induces long-term protective immunity. While it has been marketed in several European and African countries, Acambis pursued a Biological License Application (BLA) in the United States, completing Phase III clinical trials.
