Overview
**Aripiprazole + divalproex** is a fixed-dose combination drug comprising aripiprazole, an atypical antipsychotic, and divalproex sodium (a stable form of valproic acid), a mood stabilizer and anticonvulsant. This combination has been studied as a single tablet to improve pharmacokinetic consistency, increase patient compliance, and potentially deliver synergistic effects, particularly for the management of bipolar disorder. Aripiprazole acts mainly as a partial agonist at dopamine D2 and serotonin 5-HT1A receptors and an antagonist at serotonin 5-HT2A receptors, modulating dopaminergic and serotonergic neurotransmission. Divalproex (valproic acid) exerts its mood-stabilizing and anticonvulsant effects by increasing brain levels of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and affecting sodium channels. The combination's primary studied indication is for bipolar disorder, specifically maintenance therapy after mania or mixed episodes[1][2].
