Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Aristada Initio is an extended-release injectable suspension containing aripiprazole lauroxil, a prodrug of aripiprazole. It is specifically formulated for single-use administration to initiate or re-initiate treatment with the long-acting antipsychotic, Aristada, in adults with schizophrenia. The mechanism of action involves partial agonism at dopamine D2 and serotonin 5-HT1A receptors and antagonism at serotonin 5-HT2A receptors. This pharmacological profile classifies it as an atypical antipsychotic. Aristada Initio is not intended for repeated dosing and must be used in combination with a single dose of oral aripiprazole and the first dose of Aristada to rapidly achieve therapeutic levels when starting or restarting long-acting therapy[4][7][8][10].
