Overview

Aristotelia chilensis extract, derived from the Chilean native Maqui berry, is a botanical product rich in anthocyanins, particularly delphinidins such as delphinidin-3-glucoside. It is primarily investigated for its potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and cytoprotective properties. Clinical research has focused on its efficacy in managing upper respiratory tract infections (URTI), where it is used to alleviate symptoms like sore throat and fever, and in metabolic health for its ability to modulate postprandial glucose and insulin responses. Preclinical studies also suggest potential applications in oncology, specifically for downregulating multidrug resistance (MDR1) markers in glioblastoma, and in neuroprotection by inhibiting amyloid-beta fibrillogenesis. The extract is often standardized to specific anthocyanidin and delphinidin content for use in dietary supplements and clinical trials.
