Armenicum

**Armenicum** is an iodine-containing multicomponent antiseptic formulation originally developed in Armenia and promoted historically for HIV infection and associated diseases. The product comprises an iodine-containing complex with dextrin, polyvinyl alcohol, iodide, sodium, potassium, lithium, and chloride components. Its proposed activity is broad and nonspecific, reflecting iodine-mediated antimicrobial effects; a computational publication has additionally proposed inhibition of HIV integrase, but this mechanism has not been established by rigorous clinical evidence. In periodontal disease, a local paste formulation was studied as an adjunct to scaling and root planing, although the reported periodontitis publication was subsequently retracted.
