Armesocarb is the enantiopure levorotatory (R)-enantiomer of the psychostimulant mesocarb and serves as its active isomer, being developed as a selective dopamine reuptake inhibitor for central nervous system indications such as Parkinson’s disease and sleep-related disorders. It acts primarily at the dopamine transporter (DAT), where mesocarb derivatives have been characterized as atypical, non-competitive, allosteric inhibitors with high selectivity for DAT over norepinephrine and serotonin transporters, producing wakefulness-promoting and antiparkinsonian effects with reduced amphetamine-like dopaminergic release activity.[1][4][5][9][12]
