Overview

Armor-1 is an experimental oral rinse formulation containing **ectoin** (a natural extremolyte), developed for the management of xerostomia (dry mouth). Developed in collaboration with the VU Medical Centre (VUmc), Armor-1 functions by utilizing the cytoprotective properties of ectoin, which forms a stable hydration shell (the Ectoin-Hydro-Complex) around cells and proteins. This mechanism enhances the water-binding capacity of the oral mucosa, providing prolonged lubrication and protection against inflammation and dehydration. It has been evaluated in clinical intervention studies to assess its efficacy in reducing symptoms of oral dryness compared to standard saliva substitutes.
