Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Arnica montana + Ledum palustre is a combination commonly found in homeopathic and complementary medicine, typically formulated as a topical gel, ointment, or oral liquid. Both ingredients are plant-derived: Arnica montana (mountain arnica) is traditionally used to manage bruising, inflammation, and soft-tissue trauma, while Ledum palustre (wild rosemary, also known as Rhododendron tomentosum) is used in homeopathy and herbal medicine, usually for joint pain, swelling, and symptoms associated with injuries. These remedies are often used to reduce pain, swelling, and ecchymosis (bruising) following trauma or surgical procedures. The mechanism of action for both ingredients in diluted homeopathic preparations remains scientifically unproven, as the products often contain no measurable amount of the original compounds. There is preliminary evidence (based on small studies) that topical arnica montana combined with Ledum palustre may reduce bruising and edema after certain injuries or surgeries, but conclusive, high-quality clinical evidence is lacking. Homeopathic and OTC preparations containing this combination are generally considered unapproved and are not regulated for efficacy or safety by the FDA[1][3][8].
