Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Arnikamed Gel is a topical herbal medicinal product developed by Dr. Theiss Naturwaren GmbH for the treatment of blunt trauma and accident-related injuries, including bruises (hematomas), sprains (distortions), contusions, and crushing injuries. The active ingredient is a tincture derived from arnica flowers (*Arnica montana*) at a 1:10 extraction ratio using 70% v/v ethanol. Its therapeutic activity is primarily attributed to sesquiterpene lactones, such as helenalin, which exhibit anti-inflammatory properties by inhibiting the NF-kappaB signaling pathway and modulating other inflammatory mediators. The product is available over-the-counter across several European countries under various brand names, including Arnithei and Arnikamed Dolo Gel. It has been evaluated in Phase II clinical studies for local tolerance and sensitization potential.
