Overview

ARO-INHBE is an investigational RNA interference (RNAi) therapeutic developed by Arrowhead Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of obesity and related metabolic diseases. It is designed to reduce hepatic expression of the Inhibin beta E chain (INHBE) gene and its secreted product, Activin E. Loss-of-function variants in INHBE are associated with improved fat distribution and a lower risk of metabolic diseases such as type 2 diabetes. By inhibiting this pathway, ARO-INHBE aims to increase lipolysis, reduce adipose hypertrophy and dysfunction, decrease visceral adiposity, improve insulin resistance, and potentially preserve lean muscle mass compared to currently approved obesity therapies. The drug is currently being evaluated in a Phase 1/2a clinical trial (AROINHBE-1001) involving adults with obesity[2][3][5][7].
