ARO-MUC5AC is an investigational RNA interference (RNAi)-based therapeutic designed to reduce the expression of mucin 5AC (MUC5AC), a protein highly upregulated in the airways of patients with asthma and other muco-obstructive lung diseases. By silencing pulmonary epithelial MUC5AC expression, ARO-MUC5AC aims to decrease mucus production, potentially improving airflow and reducing disease exacerbations in conditions such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The drug is administered via inhalation as a solution using a nebulizer. It represents a novel approach distinct from current standard-of-care bronchodilators and anti-inflammatory therapies[1][3][8][9].
