Overview

AROLINA is an oral antidiabetic medication containing linagliptin, a selective dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor. Developed and marketed by Arrow Pharmaceuticals in Nepal, it is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults when glycemic control cannot be achieved through diet and exercise alone. The drug works by blocking the DPP-4 enzyme, which results in increased levels of incretin hormones, specifically glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP). This mechanism stimulates insulin release and suppresses glucagon secretion in a glucose-dependent manner, thereby lowering blood glucose levels. AROLINA is available in 2.5 mg and 5 mg tablet strengths and can be used as monotherapy or in combination with other antidiabetic agents such as metformin, sulphonylureas, or insulin.
