Drug intelligence / Profile preview
ARON is a brand name for a specific formulation of **alprostadil** (prostaglandin E1) used in Japan. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of erectile dysfunction and certain vascular conditions. As a prostaglandin E1 analogue, it acts as a potent vasodilator and inhibitor of platelet aggregation. By binding to specific G protein-coupled receptors (EP receptors) on smooth muscle cells, it induces an increase in intracellular cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP), leading to the relaxation of vascular smooth muscle and improved blood flow. In the context of erectile dysfunction, it facilitates the relaxation of the trabecular smooth muscle of the corpora cavernosa and the dilation of cavernosal arteries, resulting in penile tumescence.
