Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Aronta is an ophthalmic solution (eye drop) developed by Pharmaselect International, primarily indicated for the management of degenerative and inflammatory conditions of the eye, such as diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration (AMD). The formulation is a combination of a curcumin-phospholipid complex (often utilizing phytosome technology like Meriva) and sodium hyaluronate (hyaluronic acid). Curcumin is a natural polyphenol that provides potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting key signaling pathways, including NF-kappaB and TNF-alpha, which helps protect retinal tissues from oxidative damage and pathological angiogenesis. Sodium hyaluronate acts as a lubricant and humectant, stabilizing the tear film and providing symptomatic relief for ocular surface irritation or dry eye symptoms often associated with chronic ocular conditions. While Aronta is also widely marketed as an oral dietary supplement, the ophthalmic version is specifically designed for topical application to provide direct support to the ocular tissues.
