ART-648

ART-648 is an oral small molecule inhibitor of phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE4) currently in clinical development for the treatment of bullous pemphigoid. Originally developed by ARTham Therapeutics (now a subsidiary of Kaken Pharmaceutical) and licensed from RaQualia, ART-648 functions by increasing intracellular levels of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP), which in turn suppresses the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α, IL-17, and IL-23. This mechanism is intended to reduce the inflammatory skin lesions and blistering characteristic of bullous pemphigoid. The drug is being evaluated in Phase 2 trials in Japan as a potential steroid-sparing oral therapy for patients with mild to moderate disease.
