Overview

Art v 1 is the major allergen of mugwort (*Artemisia vulgaris*) pollen, a significant trigger for seasonal allergic rhinitis and asthma. In the context of allergen-specific immunotherapy (AIT), Art v 1 is produced as a recombinant protein to serve as the active component of therapeutic vaccines. The Kazakh National Agrarian Research University is developing "PollenVax," a subcutaneous immunotherapy (SCIT) formulation that combines recombinant Art v 1 with the adjuvant Montanide ISA-51. This product is designed for an ultra-short treatment course to induce immunological tolerance, shifting the immune response away from the Th2-mediated allergic pathway and reducing the production of allergen-specific IgE while potentially increasing protective IgG antibodies. It is currently being evaluated in Phase II clinical trials for patients with moderate-to-severe mugwort pollen-induced allergic rhinitis.
