Overview

ART5803 is a humanized one-armed monoclonal antibody developed as a precision medicine for the treatment of autoimmune neuropsychiatric diseases, particularly anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis (ANRE). It binds with high affinity to the N-terminal domain of the NMDA receptor NR1 subunit without affecting normal receptor function. By competitively blocking pathogenic autoantibodies from binding to NMDA receptors, ART5803 rescues NMDAR function and prevents or reverses neurological symptoms associated with ANRE. Preclinical studies have shown that it can rapidly reverse behavioral abnormalities in animal models. The drug is currently in Phase 1 clinical trials and has received Orphan Drug Designation from the US FDA.
