Overview

This represents the concurrent use of artemether-lumefantrine (a fixed-dose antimalarial combination) with nevirapine (an antiretroviral medication). Artemether-lumefantrine is first-line treatment for uncomplicated malaria, while nevirapine is used in HIV therapy. When used together, significant pharmacokinetic interactions occur: nevirapine decreases artemether and dihydroartemisinin exposure but increases lumefantrine exposure. This interaction is clinically relevant for patients requiring treatment for both HIV and malaria.
