This is a combination therapy consisting of three antiparasitic agents—artemether-lumefantrine, praziquantel, and albendazole—used together for the integrated treatment and control of malaria (Plasmodium falciparum), schistosomiasis (Schistosoma species), and soil-transmitted helminth infections. Artemether-lumefantrine is an artemisinin-based antimalarial that rapidly reduces malarial parasite burden; lumefantrine provides sustained antimalarial activity. Praziquantel is a broad-spectrum anthelmintic effective against schistosomes by increasing cell membrane permeability to calcium ions, causing paralysis and death of the parasite. Albendazole is a benzimidazole anthelmintic that inhibits microtubule polymerization in helminths, leading to impaired glucose uptake and energy depletion. This combination has been studied for mass drug administration in endemic regions to simultaneously reduce the burden of multiple parasitic diseases[1][2][3].
