Overview
Artemisia annua sublingual allergen drops are a form of sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) developed for the treatment of seasonal allergic rhinitis induced by *Artemisia* (wormwood) pollen. The product consists of standardized allergen extracts derived from *Artemisia annua* pollen, which are administered sublingually to induce immunological tolerance. The mechanism involves modulating the immune system to reduce hypersensitivity, primarily by promoting the expansion of regulatory T cells (Tregs), shifting the immune response from a Th2-mediated allergic profile to a Th1-mediated profile, and stimulating the production of allergen-specific IgG4 antibodies. These IgG4 antibodies act as blocking antibodies that compete with IgE for allergen binding, thereby inhibiting mast cell and basophil degranulation. The drug was approved in China in 2021, and clinical studies, such as those conducted by Hohhot First Hospital, continue to evaluate its efficacy in combination with other agents like probiotics.
