Overview

CKD-495 (Esogreen) is a botanical drug developed by Chong Kun Dang for the treatment of acute and chronic gastritis. It is a 95% ethanol soft extract derived from *Artemisia argyi* Herba (Aeyeop). The drug exerts its therapeutic effects through gastric mucosal protection, including the stimulation of endogenous prostaglandin synthesis (specifically PGE2), scavenging of reactive oxygen species, and inhibition of inflammatory mediators such as TNF-alpha and NF-kappaB. It was developed as an incrementally modified drug (IMD) in South Korea, offering improved stability or manufacturing processes compared to existing Artemisia-based treatments. CKD-495 received approval from the South Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) in 2022 for the improvement of gastric mucosal lesions (erosion, hemorrhage, redness, edema) associated with gastritis.
