Overview

Artemisia capillaris aqueous extract (AEAC) is a botanical extract derived from the aerial parts of *Artemisia capillaris* Thunb. or *Artemisia scoparia*. It is a complex mixture of bioactive compounds, including coumarins (such as capillarisin and esculetin), flavonoids, and organic acids. AEAC is primarily studied for its hepatoprotective, anti-inflammatory, and metabolic effects. Its mechanism of action involves the modulation of several signaling pathways, including NF-κB, AMPK, PI3K/AKT, and SREBP-1c, as well as the restoration of Glycine N-methyltransferase (GNMT) activity. Research indicates potential therapeutic applications in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), obesity, alcoholic liver injury, and vascular dysfunction associated with diabetes.
