Overview

Artemisia dracunculus, commonly known as tarragon, is a perennial herb in the Asteraceae family. It is traditionally used in Iranian folk medicine for its anticoagulant properties, often referred to as a "blood-diluting" agent. Scientific studies have shown that methanol extracts and chloroform fractions of its leaves inhibit platelet adhesion to laminin, reduce platelet protein secretion, and decrease self-aggregation. These findings suggest that Artemisia dracunculus may help prevent atherosclerosis and arterial thrombosis by mitigating platelet hyperactivity.
