Overview

Artemisia vulgaris, commonly known as mugwort, is a perennial weed whose various extracts and components are extensively studied for their diverse biological activities. It is a significant source of allergenic pollen, containing proteins such as Art v 1, Art v 2, Art v 3, Art v 4, Art v 5, and Art v 6, which are responsible for respiratory allergies. Extracts from Artemisia vulgaris have demonstrated potent antimicrobial activity against various bacteria (including *Bacillus cereus*, *S. aureus*, MRSA, *E. coli*) and fungi, as well as strong antioxidant properties. Research also indicates its potential in inhibiting cancer cell transformation and its efficacy as an acaricidal and repellent agent against pests like *Aceria pongamiae Keifer*. Furthermore, phytocompounds from Artemisia vulgaris have been investigated for their ability to inhibit the NF-κB pathway, and an essential oil blend containing it has shown to activate the AMPK/Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathway, suggesting protective effects against oxidative stress injury.
