Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Artemisia vulgaris allergen extract, developed by Laboratorios Leti, S.L., is a biological product used for allergen-specific immunotherapy (AIT) in patients with Artemisia vulgaris (mugwort) allergy. The extract is designed to induce immunological tolerance by repeatedly exposing the patient to controlled doses of the allergen, thereby shifting the immune response from a pro-allergic Th2 profile to a more tolerant Th1 or regulatory T-cell (Treg) profile. This shift is characterized by a decrease in allergen-specific IgE levels and an increase in protective IgG4 antibodies and anti-inflammatory cytokines like Interleukin-10. The extract is standardized in Histamine Equivalent Units (HEP) to ensure consistent biological activity and potency, which is critical for the safety and efficacy of desensitization protocols.
