Overview
Artemisia vulgaris extract is a botanical extract derived from Artemisia vulgaris L. (commonly known as mugwort). In clinical practice, its most established use is as an allergenic extract for the diagnosis (via skin prick testing) and treatment (via allergen immunotherapy) of mugwort pollen allergies. In preclinical research, the extract has been investigated for various therapeutic applications, including anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and xanthine oxidase inhibitory activities relevant to gout and arthritis. It has also been studied for potential efficacy against diabetic cardiomyopathy (via alpha-amylase and alpha-glucosidase inhibition), antiviral activity against herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) and rotavirus, and anticancer activity in non-small-cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) via inhibition of the Wnt/beta-catenin signaling pathway.
