Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Folium Artemisiae Argyi, commonly known as Chinese mugwort or Ai Ye, is the dried leaf of the perennial herb Artemisia argyi Levl. et Vant., widely used in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). It is primarily employed for its hemostatic (stops bleeding), analgesic (pain-relieving), antipyretic (fever-reducing), and anti-inflammatory properties. In TCM, it is also used to dispel cold, relieve pain, warm the womb, calm the fetus during pregnancy complications such as threatened miscarriage, and treat conditions like excessive menstrual bleeding due to deficiency cold. The herb contains a variety of bioactive compounds including volatile oils (such as 1,8-cineole and camphor), flavonoids (like rutin and quercetin), tannins, triterpenoids, and other phytochemicals that contribute to its pharmacological activities. Modern studies suggest potential antifatigue, antifungal, antimicrobial, antioxidant, cardiovascular protective effects as well as possible anticancer activity through modulation of pathways such as Mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling and Mechanistic target of rapamycin (mTOR) signaling[1][2][3][4]. However, robust clinical trial data are lacking for most indications.
